Which calculator do you actually need?

Sorted by the situation you are in rather than by category, because nobody wakes up wanting a calculator — they wake up with a question.

You are leaving a job

Your final settlement is made up of several separate entitlements, and employers do not always compute all of them correctly. Start with the gratuity calculator, which is usually the largest single line, then add the leave salary you never took and any notice pay owed. Your employer has 14 days from your last working day to settle everything.

If you want the whole picture in one figure rather than piece by piece, the end of service calculator combines them.

You are renewing a tenancy

Before you accept any proposed increase, check whether it is lawful. Dubai caps renewal increases by law and the RERA calculator shows how far below the market index you currently sit. If you are near market rate, the answer may be that no increase is permitted at all.

Your Ejari registration also feeds the housing fee on your utility bill, so it is worth understanding what your registered rent actually is.

Your utility bill looks wrong

Dubai and Sharjah bill on rising slabs, which means consumption and cost do not move in a straight line. Work out what your usage should cost before you dispute it.

You are running a business

Corporate tax applies at 9% above the AED 375,000 threshold, and VAT at 5% on standard-rated supplies. If you import goods, customs duty is a separate calculation again. For pricing decisions, work backwards from your margin rather than forwards from your cost.

You are sending money home

The dirham is pegged to the US dollar, so AED conversions to currencies like the Indian rupee move with the other currency rather than with the dirham. On a large transfer, a small rate difference is real money.

You are planning something physical

Whether it is a villa renovation or a single room, material estimating is where budgets go wrong. Concrete, tiling and paint all have standard volumetric formulas, and a 10% wastage margin is normal.

You are tracking your health

Body composition and nutrition numbers are useful for setting direction, not for diagnosis. Treat them as a starting point and discuss anything concerning with a doctor.

A note on how these workEvery calculator on this site shows its working rather than just a number. If the result surprises you, the breakdown underneath tells you which input drove it.
